This is an international call for participants in the upcoming Open Review of the 2017 outputs of the CASRAI standards active Working Groups (WGs).
These four CASRAI WGs are now in the final stages of preparing their outputs for a month-long period of Open Review in the international research community.
Track 1: IRIDIUM (Research Data Management) Standard Glossary Review
Track 2: Open Access Standard Glossary Review
Track 3: Academic Research Career Levels Standard Taxonomy Review
Track 4: Impacts Data Collection Standard Template Review
Participants are welcome from all research-producing nations, regardless of which nation is sponsoring the Working Group.
We are asking those with an interest in participating in the Open Review to create their free account in advance of the start date (target of early May 2017). This will help the CASRAI Secretariat and Working Groups to anticipate volumes of feedback & interactions during the month-long review.
Step 1: Create your free account on the forum. Select the blue "Sign-up" button at the top right as you are reading this posting.
Email us at email@example.com if you have any difficulties creating your free account.
Step 2: Open the track(s) you will participate in (links above). You can signal your interest by clicking the Like heart icon immediately below the topic introduction. You can change your mind later and participate in more or fewer tracks - but this gives us a sense of volume for each track.
Step 3: Watch for an announcement in early May when the introductory videos will be posted to those topics - to kick-off the Open Review.
In the second half of 2016 CASRAI Steering Committees in the Canadian and the UK chapters approved four priorities for 2017 development of new standard agreements for information-driven research management. These four priorities were the result of consultations in each country with members and partners and with the wider community through an Open Call issued in September 2016.
In early 2017, over the months of January, February and March, four CASRAI Working Groups (WGs) developed a number of draft outputs to address these four priorities (links to the WG mandates and members):
Research Data Management (IRIDIUM) Standard Glossary Working Group (Canada-led)
Open Access Standard Glossary Working Group (UK-led)
Academic Research Career Levels Standard Taxonomy (UK-led)
Impacts Data Collection Standard Template (UK-led)
The Open Review will start with the publication of a short video prepared by each WG to introduce their work and to kick-off their community review. Each of the above four groups will have its own separate review track - you can participate in one or more depending on your interest and subject-expertise.
We are calling on subject experts from the international research community to participate in this review. We are especially seeking feedback from (a) faculty and staff in research-performing institutions who are responsible for regularly supplying research information to multiple funders and other stakeholders (for example via web application forms and regular reports) and (b) program staff at research funders and other stakeholders who are responsible for establishing information-collection policies at their organisation (including publishers via their article submission forms).
To support and facilitate this international review process CASRAI is launching its new web-based Forum https://forum.casrai.org/ (this announcement is a topic posted to that new Forum). The outputs and introductory videos will be open to all but to actively provide feedback and your expertise you need to create your free account on the Forum.
We look forward to your active engagement.
